A-list hairstylist Tara Smith is to launch her own line of eco-friendly products based on a desire to create an accessible line with an ethical approach. Tara has tended to the hair of hundreds of artists over the years, including Demi Moore, Rosario Dawson, Orlando Bloom, Anna Friel, Gary Oldman, Natalie Imbruglia, Quentin Tarantino and many more. Her film credits include heading up the hair department for the LA leg of Sex & The City: The Movie among others.

Tara’s products, which have been developed in conjunction with Dr. Roger Bar of Cosmetica (and former technical director of the Body Shop), will be available to the masses from October 1 2008 and are to be marketed with the strapline, ‘Tested on film stars, not on animals’. All the products in the range are made in the UK with natural and organic earth-friendly ingredients and contain certified organic fragrances. It is one of the first professional standard haircare ranges to be produced free from harmful chemical additives; the products do not contain any parabens, SLES, PEGs, phthalates, glycols, artificial colourants, synthetic fragrances or animal derivatives. Such admirable eco-standards are not confined to the contents of the bottle either; the pumps are made with no metal so they’re easy to recycle and the products’ swing tags are made from handmade paper impregnated with wild seeds which can be planted to grow into flowers.

Smith says, “It was important to me to develop a professional-standard line that’s not only environmentally friendly, but accessible to everyone with a realistic price tag. The hair is essentially a plant and your scalp is the soil – you have to feed and nourish it for your hair to be healthy.” Demi Moore and Rosario Dawson are among the many A-list clients who have tried the products.
